Staff from Rapid Racking are preparing to reach new heights in aid of a children’s charity.

Nine employees from Rapid Racking are getting out their walking boots as they prepare to hike up the highest peak in South Wales, Pen-y-Fan, in August, 2022.

Organised by Rapid’s Project Coordination Manager, Laura Hoare, and Internal Designer, Macauley Messenger, the group will be taking on the 5-mile challenge in aid of Bliss, a UK charity supporting families whose babies are born prematurely or sick.

On selecting the charity, Laura explained: “Multiple members of the team have had their babies at Swindon’s Great Western Hospital, so we felt it would be a nice local charity to raise money for. It also linked nicely with Jessica’s Bliss fundraiser from Manutan UK.”

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the charity hike will be the company’s first group outing. Macauley said: “The main inspiration behind the charity hike was mainly to get the Rapid team together and try to achieve something different.

“This is a great chance to raise money for charity and an opportunity to team build along the way.”

To add an extra challenge for the group, the team have opted to hike up the SAS route of the mountain. Laura explained: “As we are doing the hike on a Saturday, the SAS route will naturally be quieter, but will also be more of a challenge and achievement for the team to complete.

“The route also provides a nice circular path for the team, with a gentler walk on the descent.

“We would like to work together as a team to all reach the summit at once. We’re aiming to get to the top within 1 and a half hours.”

Macauley added: “We are hoping that we can successfully complete Pen-y-Fan in a good time. Following on from this Laura and I are hoping to organise some bigger active challenges next year for charity, so watch this space!”

The team will be embarking on their charity hike on Saturday 13 August, 2022.
